When you go camping you are are going to need Camping Supplies. The first thing you need is a good tent. There are many different kinds of tents to choose from. The things to consider is how many people will be in the tent. The next thing is how heavy is this going to be to carry. The final decision is going to be the cost. If you are in a good size group you may have on person carry the tent. I would also make sure it is a nonflammable material. I believe this is a standard in tents these days. I would also have a tarp that you can mount over the front of your tent so if it rains it will keep it dry when you go in and out of the tent.
The next item is going to be a backpack. Once again the backpacks come in all shapes and sizes. If you are using a two man pup tent make sure you can attach your tent to it. I have seen some backpacks where you may have a special aluminium rack that the backpack attaches to, so you can tie the tent to it. You can also carry all your food, pots and pans as well as a very good first aid kit. I would also make sure to bring some good rope with you also. There is the Dacron UV protected rope that can hold up to 770lbs. It is the same rope I use for my Ham Radio Antennas.
Other items that I would bring are things to clean your hands such as soap and hand sanitizer. You may want to have a portable shower and bring some shampoo as well. I would also bring some of the water purifying tablets and plenty of matches to light a fire. You can also bring a kit to be able to start a fire just in case your matches get wet.
Some other important items to bring are your maps of the terrain and surrounding areas. This will be very helpful if you get lost. If you are a Ham Radio Operator I would bring maybe a 2 meter hand held radio and a wire dipole antenna with the Dacron UV Protected rope. There are some Ham Radios that will cover other frequencies and are for portable use. Just make sure you have a Ham Radio License to cover the frequencies. You could also bring a Walkie Talkie CB Radio. It will not have as much power and transmitting distance is limited, but it could save a life in an emergency.
Some other important items would some various tools. By tools I mean a tree saw that folds up. This would come in handy for cutting up wood for the fire. Another tool that you should have is a small hatchet for chopping and splitting wood. I would also suggest that you should have a good compass for direction finding. Finally I would have a good hunting knife and a good pocket knife, such as a Swiss army knife.
Finally you have the clothing that you should wear and bring. I would definitely bring a warm sweatshirt for those chilly evenings. I would wear a nice long sleeve shirt and a hat of some sort. Bring warn jeans and hiking shorts, because the pockets come in very handy. Bring plenty of warm socks and wear hiking boots or hiking shoes. Remember to bring extra cloths depending on how long you are camping. I would also bring a fishing pole, lures and fishing line.
If you bring your own food there are plenty of freeze dried choices that taste pretty good. Do not bring any canned food, because it may spoil in the heat. I remember the one person that had brought canned clams. Needless to say he was up all night and very sick. Always boil your water and never drink water from a pond or stream. I got sick once from that sort of thing and it was no fun. If your not hiking too far in you could bring your own bottled water.
Well that’s all for now so enjoy the summer and have fun. Thank You for reading.
